Well, Ihate to be a spoil-sport, but running 87 will cause troubles later.

Case in point ... I bought my 2001 Z28 with 3,000 miles on it from the dealer. The manager's wife had been driving it for several months and she put 87 octane gasoline in it for those 3 months.

When I bought the car, I had pinging like crazy. I quickly did a bottle of octane boost and ran through that tank as quick as possible. After a couple of tanks of 93, I still had pinging. So, back to the dealer.

They had to keep the car for 2 days to de-carbon the motor (which is when I found out about the manager's wife and her 87 octane gas)

About a month later, even though I ran 93 Amoco gasoline exclusively, I still had to go back and have it de-carboned one more time.

My T/A ? Never seen a drop of anything except 93 octane.

So, don't take this the wrong way, but if you can't afford the proper gasoline, then you can't afford the car.
