New 02 SS Questions
Alright I just took delivery of my SS last week and I couldn't wait to start with the mods. I ordered a new lid from SLP as well as a new MAF and the tuned headers. My question is this, I noticed that on my stock air lid it says "SLP blackwing" My 2000 SS didn't have this and I found it in the new SLP catalog. Is the blackwing better than the lid that I just ordered?
Anxious to find out myself =)

I think you might want to send back the lid you just bought. The slp blackwing lid is basically the same as any other aftermarket lid. I think the inside of the slp aftermarket lid and the blackwing lid (that can be ordered with the car) are the same. From what I know, the blackwing looks like and is considered an OEM peice. other that that the two are the same so in effect you already have an aftermarket lid. I don't think you will see any gains by installing the one you ordered. There was a discussion about this lid (blackwing OEM style) a while back. Some people who had the stock lid wanted to buy it over the after market because it is considered OEM. But at 300 dollars I think its not worth it. The Firehawks get this lid standard, its an option on the SS. I take it you ordered it an an option?

I didn't know about this blackwing lid OR the 345 horse option. I'll have to see about that lid when I get to work Monday.

The Blackwing lid is just as good and any other aftermarket lid out there, or so I am told.
SLP contracted a HUGE industrial filtering company to make it. http://www.donaldson.com
You probably also got the Blackwing air filter as well. From what I read, it is a $40 filter.
A K&N won't fit in that box without foam gaskets, it is not thick enough at the seal. I just tried it today and decided that it was not worth the risk of the filter not being effective. I heard that Donovan is making a resueable filter (like a K&N) specifically for that airbox/lid. I was going to get a Holley Powershot filter, but I think that I'll wait for the Donaldson reuseable filter to ensure that it will fit perfectly since they designed the box.
More info that you asked for, but I hope it will come in handy!
Want more info? Head over to the SLP message board and search for "Donaldson". Lots of bickering over it, but some decent info in there as well.
