Firehawks are an excellent tire, but I have the ES100 Yohohama's, and they are excellent in the rain.

 

I see there's alot of confusion in here with 2nd gear start. Either that or people are being unclear in their posts You don't start out in first and THEN put the shifter into 2, you start out with it in 2, and if it's a 4L60E tranny, it will start in 2nd. My dad's 97 Z71 even has it, so I'm sure most newer cars DO. I haven't had a chance to try in in my TA yet, although I'm sure it has it.

Another thought though, my 3.1 spins out fairly easy too, so if a little 150hp V6 can, it's gotta be the tires, not the "power".

 

No..my car does exactly what i said it does before..if I pull out of my driveway, put the car in "2"...It will start off in first gear, than shift into second..just as if i was in driving with it in "D". The difference is, obviously, the car will not shift out of second into third..when i stop at a stop sign..same thing..it starts off in first gear, than shifts into second gear, and stays there, if i put it to the floor doin like 30 with the car in "2" it will downshift into first, it acts just like a normal transmission, except its only using the first twogears...if i put it in "1" the car will obviously, start in first gear, and stay in first gear.

 

That's odd. I'm fairly certain all newer auto-trannies have second gear start. Maybe there's a bad connection, or it might even be disabled some how I don't know what to say man. Sorry

yea...my dad's S-10, has 2nd gear start...thats why i thought it was odd that my car did this..maybe your right, maybe a bad connection somewhere...idk..oh well..thanks for the help man! i guess i'm just gonna have to start off really carefully in the rain..and get some good tires once these wear out some more..thanks for all the help guys!

 

Just thought of something... check your owners manual. I'm not sure how model-specific they are, but it should say if you're supposed to have it or not. I don't think it's an option, so there SHOULD be something you can do Good luck

BFG gattor-backs.They come stock on the 00-02 ss and on the C5's.I had a pair on the back of my ss and they did rather well in thr rain,even when your getting alittle light in the rearend.

I've never had a tire stick so well in the rain.

 

There's lots of ways to control the car in the rain. But honestly, you should realize by now what type of car your driving and how much power it has. Just drive slow, and you shouldnt have that much of a problem.

Bottom line, you have a grrrrrrreat opportunity here! Learning to drive in the rain, even with shatty tires, driving in the rain is an art, an acquired skill, so hey, it's a good thing! Until you get new tires, you can get a LOT of experience...Just don't hit anything

 

haha yea! Now that i realized that there's really nothing i can do about it, im just having fun with it! Obviously, in area's where its not safe..i dont do anything stupid..but i figured hey! if i'm gonna have to drive in the rain..i might as well make it fun..and yes, as you were saying, it's great practice...i figure if i can control a powerslide in the rain, i'll be able to control it in the dry too...and now i'm gettin a good feel for my car, and now it responds in different situations...i'm gettin so used to it in the rain, that i'm able to do more and more with more confidence....again..thanks for all the help
