My car sucks in the rain!
I see there's alot of confusion in here with 2nd gear start. Either that or people are being unclear in their posts
You don't start out in first and THEN put the shifter into 2, you start out with it in 2, and if it's a 4L60E tranny, it will start in 2nd. My dad's 97 Z71 even has it, so I'm sure most newer cars DO. I haven't had a chance to try in in my TA yet, although I'm sure it has it.
Another thought though, my 3.1 spins out fairly easy too, so if a little 150hp V6 can, it's gotta be the tires, not the "power".

No..my car does exactly what i said it does before..if I pull out of my driveway, put the car in "2"...It will start off in first gear, than shift into second..just as if i was in driving with it in "D". The difference is, obviously, the car will not shift out of second into third..when i stop at a stop sign..same thing..it starts off in first gear, than shifts into second gear, and stays there, if i put it to the floor doin like 30 with the car in "2" it will downshift into first, it acts just like a normal transmission, except its only using the first twogears...if i put it in "1" the car will obviously, start in first gear, and stay in first gear.

That's odd. I'm fairly certain all newer auto-trannies have second gear start. Maybe there's a bad connection, or it might even be disabled some how

Just thought of something... check your owners manual. I'm not sure how model-specific they are, but it should say if you're supposed to have it or not. I don't think it's an option, so there SHOULD be something you can do
Good luck
Good luck
tires
BFG gattor-backs.They come stock on the 00-02 ss and on the C5's.I had a pair on the back of my ss and they did rather well in thr rain, even when your getting alittle light in the rearend.
There's lots of ways to control the car in the rain. But honestly, you should realize by now what type of car your driving and how much power it has. Just drive slow, and you shouldnt have that much of a problem.

Ok ok..i know that its a z28, and nobody ever expected it to have good traction....but i need some tips/advice. Ok, lets say i'm trying to pull out of somewhere, while its raining, i literally have to pull out when there's no cars coming, or they are wayyy down the road...My car is an A4 with 2.73's, no traction control...most of the time my technique was, barely get on the gas, let the car shift into 2nd, than gradually start easing on the throttle...that used to work, but lately, as soon as i start easing in the throttle (at a somewhat quick rate) i'll feel the back end gettin light..which is kinda scary when your doin like 40 mph on these little hick roads in the pouring rain...so can anyone help me out with some advice? maybe some good tires that you have personally used that you felt really improved your traction in the rain..but didnt sacrafice any dry performance. Or maybe some tips..that you guys use in the rain..haha idk..maybe i'm just asking for something thats not gonna happen..traction..in the pouring rain, with an LS1
. Thanks for any help.

Bottom line, you have a grrrrrrreat opportunity here! Learning to drive in the rain, even with shatty tires, driving in the rain is an art, an acquired skill, so hey, it's a good thing! Until you get new tires, you can get a LOT of experience...Just don't hit anything
