My car sucks in the rain!

Ok ok..i know that its a z28, and nobody ever expected it to have good traction....but i need some tips/advice. Ok, lets say i'm trying to pull out of somewhere, while its raining, i literally have to pull out when there's no cars coming, or they are wayyy down the road...My car is an A4 with 2.73's, no traction control...most of the time my technique was, barely get on the gas, let the car shift into 2nd, than gradually start easing on the throttle...that used to work, but lately, as soon as i start easing in the throttle (at a somewhat quick rate) i'll feel the back end gettin light..which is kinda scary when your doin like 40 mph on these little hick roads in the pouring rain...so can anyone help me out with some advice? maybe some good tires that you have personally used that you felt really improved your traction in the rain..but didnt sacrafice any dry performance. Or maybe some tips..that you guys use in the rain..haha idk..maybe i'm just asking for something thats not gonna happen..traction..in the pouring rain, with an LS1 . Thanks for any help.

I would either keep working on the easing on the accelerator or you can put weight in the back of your car. I have to put weight in my car during the winter so I am heavier. If performance you are worried about just check the weather and I am sure most days you can drive w/o the weight. Bottom line their is no best way, that is the price we pay for speed and looks.

Some good mud and snow tires is another good way to go. There are some radical ways of doing it, like tunning the car to have a significant drop in horsepower and torque, but I really don't know what that would do to the engine, and that has to be a pain to reset every single time it rains. However, for the same price of 4 tires, you could get some FWD beater. Just my .02

First gear is really high so it is a good idea to barely touch the gas when moving from a stop. Then once it shifts into second gently apply a little more throttle. Usually in first gear in the rain I accelerate a little slower then the cars in front of me but by second gear I am usually accelerating at the same pace as the rest of traffic.

sounds like you have crappy tires.

I drive and have driven almost every Fbody I have owned (except my TTA) thru snow, rain, hail, etc without problems.. IMO your back tires must completely suck or you have more of a lead foot than you let on. Some tips: Let the rear tires spin a little, they will grab and as long as you dont punch it youre not gonna lose control, just ease into the throttle and bring up your speed gradually and evenly.

thanks for the replies guys! yea..i have some yokohama Avid T4's or something...the dealership put them on when we bought the car..so i'm sure there not "top of the line" tires..looks like i'm gonna have to work on being even more gentle with my right foot, and once these tires get a little more worn..and i get some money, i'll have to lay them to rest with a couple good burnouts , than buy some real tires that are a little better...again..thanks for the help guys

great price for performance on these is what I say!!
Good enough to feel good going 100+ on slick ashpalt roads.. but then again, I love speed.. I just never fly in the rain when I know there is a puddle coming up.. too hard to predict the car then... otherwise all is good.. these tires wick water away great! I feel good enough to let my girl drive the car in the rain with them on! hehe

...just like some other people have mentioned. Its all tires man. The stock GSC's that I had were absolutely scary in rain. Ever since I bought my nitto 555's, I havent had a problem at all in the rain. For my other rims, I bought some Michelin Arctic Alpins for the winter, and its absolutely night and day difference from when I first bought the car. Last year in the snow, I couldnt make it up a hill, or a few fast food drive through windows with my GSC's and this year with my snow tires, I can go right up a huge hill full of ice and snow.

My 6 speed WS6 has awesome handling in rain & snow (especially with traction control). Its so much easier to control a manual than an auto in rainy/snowy conditions.

Put the car in "2" instead of "D". It will start you off in second gear instead of first and you should have better luck.

As said B-4 a set of good wet/dry tires will help out a ton.
That & a little throttle control.
