Re: Much needed info.on Porting the LS1 TB

Hey mook99TA,

I sent the TB off today and you should have it within 1-2 days. I looked at the web site installuniversity.com and I didn't have the two T-20 and T-25 Torx screwdriver and I couldn't take off the idle control valve screws and the throttle position sensor screws. Can you please remove them. I appreciate it!
Let me know when you're done. I will need to have it polished to make it look alot better. I can't wait to see how it looks when you're done with it.

Do you want me to leave them off? And do you want the bump stop mod too?

Hey mook99TA,

On the TB I left the idle control valve on and the throttle position sensor on, I didn't have those 2 screwdrivers to take them off. I was just sitting here wondering when you do the porting job, do you need to take them off or what? I would prefer that you took'em so they wouldn't get damaged and put them back on when you're finished with the TB. I would like the bump stop mod also, but on installuniversity.com it says that the blade should not open no more than 85 or 90 degrees because I will send an "SES" fault.

I do remove both of the sensors when I do the porting. To many metal shavings fly around when doing it. I am fully aware of the 85 to 90 degrees and I test it with a multimeter while I do it so it will not open to far.

Hey mook99TA,

I was just curious. Is it important to fill the 2 holes or not with some kind of metal epoxy filler? What about grinding down the blade? I hear so many people with comments on porting the TB.

I do not fill the holes with epoxy. I do grind down the bar that holds the blade down.

ya, you should start removing the top half of the TB blade holder. Not alot of commercial porters do that, so it'll give a bit more busines.

How does that help by removing the top half of the blade holder. What about the back side?

it increases the flow you can't remove both sides because you need somthing to hold it on.

Re: Much needed info.on Porting the LS1 TB

I just got the ported and polished TB in from mook99TA and I must say that I'm amazed at how it turned out so professional looking. He does really great work and I can't wait to put it back on the car. I may put on some C.C. Pacesetters LT with Y-Pipe and high-flow cats but I can't find all the "How-To-Install LT Pacesetters and Y-Pipe w/ high-flow cats on LS1 T.A." I hear alot of negative fitting issues with their Y-Pipe to their headers. I may also add a ASP Underdrive Pulley w/ belts, but I think the headers will come first because I can get them shipped to my door for around $700 for everything and that's with 24" O2 Oxy Sensors exts. Can you find them anywhere lower than that price and if so please post the company name and their prices.

yes you can find htem for quite a bit cheaper! look on the classifieds section. i picked up my slp headers used for 200 which retail at around 800 dollars. I'm glad you like your TB! did he remove the top blade support as well? if not you could do it with a hack saw/dremel in about 15 minutes.
