Re: Midwest, TCI, or TSI Converter?

One thing to keep in mind.... TCI makes a budget converter and a "Precision" converter. Not that their "budget" converters are bad, but people often compare TCI's budget converters with converters from Precision, Yank, etc.. Not really a fair comparison, as some of these other converters cost quite a bit more.

You should check out the TCI. I'd also check out Coan. They've always done me right.

Wow, I feel like a dumbass now

There I was, over a year ago talking bad about TCI converters. And what did I do? Got me one

Mine's been fine so far. I'm having a lock-up problem right now, but I think it's tuning related.

And what do you think of a 2.0 STR for the street?
I have a TCI 2800. I was like you and bought it mainly for the price. I dont see how a 2800 stall wouldn't be enough. That's the size they recommend for the powerband LS1's are in. Anything higher is mostly for race applications. Trust me, I beat the hell out of that thing and have not had any problems yet.

Texas speed & performance sells them at a really good price. Just get at least the 3000 stall. It's plenty streetable and will drop about .5 from most LS1's ET.

But make sure you get a tranny cooler and a shift kit is not a bad idea either. Good Luck.

Re: Midwest, TCI, or TSI Converter?

I got mine used from a guy in the local F-body club (sorry, I know that doesn't help)

It's a rebuilt 3800, though, and it's DEFINATELY not too much for the street. It's my daily driver, so I have to put up with it every day. I don't know how anyone would WANT to go any less They should get AT LEAST the TCI 3500.

Re: Midwest, TCI, or TSI Converter?

Personally I have never seen anything good come out of TCI. I have had Midwest, Precision and currently running TCS. Midwest I had in my 3rd Gen, the converter was great, the customer service was AWSOME!! I was between a rock and a hard place. I needed a converter for a friday event, they were about 2 hours away from me. Paid for it over the phone and it was delivered to a trans shop minutes from my house on thursday!!

Precision, everyone seems to swear by these, they are good converters, but I dont like their turn around for stall adjustments and such, takes too long.

TCS, I am current running a 9/11 and its a great converter and the customer service is great too, let alone the 600 something dollar price.

Re: Midwest, TCI, or TSI Converter?

I've seen lots of people extremly satisfied with TCI. Kevin will stand behind his products too so if you have any problems he will fix it. I thought TCS was out of business? I heard derrik had a falling out and left the company. Then people were ranting for months about how they were not getting converters that were ordered, refunds refused, no restalls, ect.

Did they reopen under new management or something? There is a nineteen page (or something like that) stick thread about TCS over at ls1tech.com all of which is rants and complaints about the fall out. If they have new owners/management then they might be worth a look but if not then I wouldn't even call them for a quote.
