How many ponies do I have?
How many ponies do I have?
I recently purchased a 2000 SS Convertible. People ask me "how much horse power (rear wheel) does it have?" What would be an honest answer if it has the following modifications:
SLP Cold Air Induction
SLP High-Flow Air Box Lid
SLP Smooth Bellows
SLP Mass Air Flow Sensor
SLP Loudmouth Exhaust
Thanks!

Re: How many ponies do I have?
It's m6 with 4.10s - What does a stock SS have? Is the 320 hp that I've seen on sites like autos.msn.com at the flywheel?

Re: How many ponies do I have?
A Stock SS has about 345-350 at the flywheel and just under 300 to the rear-wheels. You probably added close to 20 rear-wheel horsepower with your mods so I would guess you have about 320 @ the Rear-wheels and 370 @ the flywheel.
Re: How many ponies do I have?
realize the only hp (from a dyno standpoint) mods you have is a Lid and catback.
the maf may or may not be adding any power...particularly on a very near stock car.
the cai and bellows do nothing for hp
on the highway the cai may give a couple ponies...get the Austin scoop for it and make it a ram air and you'll be all set.
so figuring an m6 starting at 295-300hp + 5-7hp for the lid + 12-15hp for the loudmouth = 315-320hp
