manual fan control question
manual fan control question
I have a M6 so I installed the 160 thermostat and SLP's manual fan control device. 70 bucks for the SLP part compaired to $300+ for a hypertech programer.....a few rwhp and torq just aren't worth it to me.
Now on to my question! How long can you leave the fan on low??? (while driving around town) I plan on just using the high setting @ the track for quick cool downs. Is it OK to run the fan on low all the time? I know I want need it on when Iam on the highway.

I made a manual control switch on my own (just a switch and resistor going to the relay box) and I run it on high all the time - comes on as soon as the ignition is turned. Engine never goes over 185 even in the middle of summer, and I live in Florida. Runs the battery down faster than you'd think you the engine isn't running, but as long as you're driving no problems.
Fwiw: Folks considering these mods can do both for around $20.
I have done the stat mod and the auto fan mod. The fan switch is thermostatic and doesn't require you to remember to turn it on or off. It also doesn't require stringing wires far at all, and nothing into the cabin.

In the summer, I run mine alot. If you have the AC on the fans run on high anyway. At the track I use it some, but watch your batt, it does run down fast! And hey, if they burn up...you can easily replace them!
