Question m6 stick bouncing. help!

Just got a 98 z28 m6, i having a weird issue with the shifter. on WOT the shifter seems to bounce up and down, the whole stick will rise and fall about one inch. the bouncing does not seem to effect anything else, it shifts smooth and never grinds or jumps out of gear, the car performs normal. regular easy driving and the stick wont bounce at all. what could be causing this.

I'd check your tranny mount. It may have snapped or the rubber just might be done. If you can stand a little vibration, you might wanna check into getting a poly. tranny mount. They're not too expensive.

Bad sychros will cause a car to bounce out of gear.
Is it doing this in 3rd especially.
That is the notorious one. I had 2 T56 fbods that did this

I'm going to offer another alternative...

Have you ever owned an Fbody before? The torque of the motor moves the stick about one inch when under WOT. If thats what you are talking about its happened on all four 4th gen fbodys my family has owned.

check my sig out that my another f-body, so I know a thing or 2 about these cars, plus i have been driving stick since I was 14 but I have never seen anything like this. I know what you mean about the torque moving the stick a little but in my case the stick bounce up and down continuously and violently at wot. Probably SSpdDmon is right the tranny mount might be the problem.

Peace,
should i be driving the car right now if it has a faulty tranny mount or a bent torque arm mount or is it safe enough for regular driving.

Yes, if you're gentle with the loud pedal

Al's right, you should be ok for regular driving. I had this issue about 3 months ago and it was the tranny mount. I drove on it for a couple of months before actually going under the car and checking out the mount. It was cracked on every side plus a good size hole in the side of it. Replaced the stock mount with a prothane mount, very easy job.
