Re: Ls1 Vs. Lt1

depends on what you want to do in the car. yea the ls1 is mean, but if you put 10,000 in an lt1 and ls1, they will be damn near the same. i think the lt1 sounds way meaner to. i have a 96 lt1 and its cool, but if i had a choice i would have picked the ls1.

Re: Ls1 Vs. Lt1

I was originally going to get an LS-1 for this reason bolt on LS1=12's.. Full bolt on LT1= probably mid 13's. But i got a really good deal on my car. Probably a 1/3 of the cost of a nice LS1 around these parts.

thats a really good point. i've owned both, AT LEAST 5-6 other people in this thread have owned both. it has nothing to do with a biased opinion.

Re: Ls1 Vs. Lt1

I have owned both within the last 6 months. Money was the reason i'm in a LT1 now. I would go back to an LS1 ANY day!
There are more things than just a motor also.
LS1 has (in the manual version atlest) Better clutch options, larger input shaft (stronger)
LS1 has better differential in most cases. (but you can get one from SLP for $99 for the LT1)
LS1 has better Brakes
LS1 has better ignition system, and fuel system
And then the motor. You have read all about. All around stronger and easier to work on. Reacts WELL to mods!
But for me being able to pay cash for the LT1 and still have fun is worth it over the payments I had on my LS1. It's all what YOU prefer.

Re: Ls1 Vs. Lt1

I had a 96 TA and I currently own a 00 SS. If you plan on putting some work into the car, then either would be a good choice. But remember too that they both have differences in looks. If you plan on doing just bolt ons, then go with the LS1. Me personally, I love my LS1 and would not go back to an LT1. The LS1 (M6) went 13.6 in the quarter and the LT1 (A4) went 14.5 with both having exhaust and airlid mods. For what its worth.

Re: Ls1 Vs. Lt1

Both engines have strong points, the LS1 simply has more strong points. Not only that but facts state that it is lighter, it has a plastic intake, better clutch, lighter, aluminum block, nice flowing heads etc. etc.

Would I trade my LT1 for an LS1?? Hell no. I don't want no ****ty sounding, no torque-having, lifter ticking, weak clutch hydraulics, etc. etc.

Where do people keep getting this idea that the LS1 has no torque?! IT HAS MORE THAN THE LT1, and that is a fact. The denial on this board is retarded. Go wash your Opti.

Re: Ls1 Vs. Lt1

ls1's have better heads & intake manifold stock.. and shorty style exhaust manifolds.. ive seen alot of heads/cam lt1's making the same amount of power as heads/cam ls1's in my opinion once you get past the heads on the lt1's the power differences arent that far apart

although i agree with you, the last thing i want to see is a group of f-body guys fighting with eachother....i don't even like seeing ford vs. chevy battles....can't we all just get along and hate rice together....

(the opti washing thing did make me chuckle though)

like you said, the LS1 does have more torque than an LT1 in stock form...the difference is that the LS1s torque peak is around 4000 RPM and the LT1s is down below 3000 RPM. the thought of a 346 ci V8 not having any torque is just funny to me....
