Looking for Header Recommendations for 98 SS
Hi,
I am in the market for some new headers for a 1998 SS, everything stock besides Magnaflow cat-back. I am looking for long tubes or mids, no shorties. I am also looking for a new y pipe, no cats. I am wondering what is the best bang for my buck for headers and a off road y pipe? I would also like them to be coated. Any imformation or links would be great!
Thank you!
Tony

FLowtechs were ok for me. Just make sure you get some good ones and check the flanges to make sure they are straight before you install them.
If i were to do it again i would get pacesetters so I could bolt the tsp true dual system to them.Although you can get a universal kit and have someone bend it for you for the same or cheaper.
But it is a lot simpler and easier to just get the coated pacesetters and bolt the tsp true duals to them.
My advice...pacersetter with tsp true duals...awesome sound...awesome power gains. I bet you would see around 20-25 rwhp gain with getting both those.
And youll need some o2 sims and plan on getting some new front o2's.
tsp= texas speed & performance.

Best bang for your buck is going to be long tubes. They are easy to find for cheaper then mids or shorties and since your not worried about having cats, I'd definitely go for long tubes.

Re: Looking for Header Recommendations for 98 SS
i second the Flowtechs...and i second the "check the flange"
my FT off road ypipe fit PERFECT
change the motor mounts as well while the manifolds are out...poly mounts will nearly eliminate engine movement under load and prevent almost all clearance problems and rubbing.
$60 well spent...specially since you can't change them once you install the headers...no room.

We have the off-road Pacesetter headers in stock as well as our ORYs. We have them for $500 + shipping. I am running the Pacesetters and wouldn't think twice about running them again. Best bang for the buck header out there IMO. Let me know if you have any questions!

LOL What? Since when are a good set of LT's cheaper than Mac mids.
Granted they were used but I picked up a set of Mac mids w/ORY pipe for $250 shipped. You can't even get a set of LTs WITHOUT a yipe for that price.

Re: Looking for Header Recommendations for 98 SS
I know alot of people who are satisfied with there PaceSetters, considering there price, usually half the price of the high end headers like SLP. But, if you want to spend a little more money I recommend the Jet Hot Headers, very nice coat, great clearence, and awesome sounding. With the borla catback I picked up 35rwhp.

Re: Looking for Header Recommendations for 98 SS
Pacesetter LT's are the best value right now. They are built almost identically to the Jet-Hots (16 guage, 3/8" thick flanges) and are a little easier to install but are $100 cheaper. As for the exhaust setup, skip the Y and go true duals. The sound is much better, and you will not only make more peak power, but you'll actually gain low end and midrange torque with the true duals instead of losing some with a Y pipe. My setup from Lane fit extremely well with great clearance. www.lanesperformance.com

Re: Looking for Header Recommendations for 98 SS
I bought ceramic coated pacestter LT's with a TSP ORY. They seem to be a quality header for the price. There may be some headers that people claim to be better but some are twice the price.
