Goal: 500 rwhp.
I'd reduce that goal by around 30+rwhp especially if you aren't running a FAST 90/90.

Besides adding the Fast 90/90, is there anything else you would change/replace in my list? I want to hit 500...yes, just to say it.

12:1 compression (provided you can get 93 octane), possibly different heads, and a cam to match... what cam are you going with?

Honestly, if you're doing blockwork like boring/honing, putting in new rings/bearings, etc, you might as well build a stroker motor for a few hundred more.

I don't know where there is any place to get 93 octane. Every place only has 91. There is a 76 near my house that sells racing fuel, 100 octane, but its like 7 dollars a gallon.

What's the highest cr you can run on 91 octane, 11:1?
I have heard of people running P&P 243's. Do you have any recommendations on heads and matching cam?

The cheapest stroker kit I have seen was a Eagle 408 stroker kit from Summit for ~$2600. If you know of any good ones that are reasonably priced, let me know.

Thanks for you help so far!

The Eagle stuff is nice and inexpensive (considering the price of LS1 internal stuff). That's what I had in my 408. Supposedly if you go with the upgraded ARP bolts, it can support upwards of 1000+ horsepower. The standard stuff can support up to 750 horsepower.

I honestly hate giving advice to people who don't have access to 93 or use oxygenated 91 on the west coast because it's hard to say how the engine responds to it. I definetly wouldn't go over 11:1 on that garbage gasoline

243 heads are LS6 heads. Great heads if you get them ported by someone reputable. Less reputable people take nice heads and turn them into garbage. 243s (and other stock castings) are very hit/miss due to that very reason.

I'd run something in the high 230s/low240s @ 110-112 LSA and +2-+4 advance with .625-.650 lift depending on your setup...you going with a 364+ or a 408? 402? etc.

I read a post about running a LS2 timing set, is that recommended with high output? Also saw a suggestion for a ported oil pump. Is it as simple as slightly enlarging and smoothing out the entrance and exit openings? Shim the relief spring?

LS2 timing set is an upgrade from an LS1 set.

Just buy a ported pump from one of the supporting vendors.

I went back to the junkyard, and discovered one of the engines I thought was a LM7 is actually an LQ4. I believe its an 00', its complete and it looks in good shape.

As said before, I want to get a motor on a stand and build it up. Is this a good platform?

Be careful cuz '99 and '00 LQ4 have Iron Heads and a diff crank that is bigger at the trans part, so if you are planing to use it with a 4L60E or T-56 you might have to change crank !!! just look for 317 heads, these are the aluminum ones

Look for the 4 letters/numbers on the left front part (if you are in front looking to it) of the engine right under the head in the block, they will tell you the year, example:

"The A066 is all you need That tells me your motor was made:

A=january
06= 6th day of the month
6=2006 year "
