Yeah, just make that not be there and use electric fans...

IF...I get the engine. I was thinking LS6 intake, LS6 cam, springs & rockers, and headers. One day...boost.

Awesome deal. Congrats on the find.

LS6 cam is kinda weak for NA 6.0L, but will work decent on boost. Make sure you get a 2002+ LS6 cam if you get one. That motor already comes with lower compression (9.6:1), so it's begging for boost

If boost is on the menu, keep the compression ratio the same and get a forged bottom end for insurance? What would be a better alternative for the LS6 cam? If budget permits...P&P the heads?
EDIT: If a forged bottom end is in order, I was thinking 4.000 inch crank and forged alum full dish pistons...for ~9.0:1 compression ratio.

These are all long-term plans, to be installed in an 98-02 fbody, possibly with a STS turbo kit or comparable alternative, AND all while still being able to pass emission.

Depends on how much boost you want.... you don't NEED a forged bottom end unless you're throwing a ton of boost at it. As long as you have good injectors/pump, you should be able to run around 8-10psi no problem on the stock LQ9 compression.

I doubt you can run the STS kit and pass emissions or visual inspection with a turbo sitting under your rear bumper. The STS isn't worth a **** IMO anyway.

If you need to pass emissions, I'd just run the LS6 cam, leave the heads alone, and get a Procharger D1SC kit and see how you like it You should be around 450-480 rwhp with no problem at all.

Did you mean LQ4? The LQ9 is 10.08:1 and the LQ4 is 9.41:1. Leaving the bottom end alone will save alot of money, and I will be content with 450 rwhp. I will look into a Procharger kit. Thanks.

Yeah, you're right. The LQ9 is 10:1 due to different pistons. Usually you would only use the block or the heads on a build. The LQ4 is around 9.5:1. Both heads are 72cc, though, which would put an LS1 around 9.6:1.

I picked up the motor today...I verified that its a complete 6.0 liter LQ4 with aluminum 317 heads...all for $500+taxes. I bought an engine stand, waiting on a buddy to borrow a cherry picker to get it off the truck. I'm excited to start the project.

There is a guy selling a LS1 Hot Cam for cheap, would that be a good cam for an LQ4?
