K&N Questions

i see this all to often, people disputing over whether the k&n is better than paper filters. most people say that paper outflows the k&n but they are wrong, click here and here is a test of different filters on a tunercar. even though the k&n does outflow paper filters you most likely wont feel 4hp at best that you'll get over a new paper filter but me personally i like nowing that i have that meesly couple of hp.

In my garage I have an MTI lid, 1 K&N filter, 1 Amsoil filter. Why? Cause the day that I get my track times more consistant (i do back to back 13.4's but have hit 13.2-13.3 so I want more consistancy) then I will do track tests.. Not that I expect to see different outcome.. Whats 3 hp really going to show at the track huh? But hey! why not.. just for grins huh? In any case.. Like you stated.. I prefer to know that I (and I do have and show proof) make 3 more RWHP with my stock paper filter than with an aftermarket filter.
Thats my story.. AND I AM STICKING WITH IT! (spent $500 on a day of testing and whatnot so I could rest!)
K&N air filters for the LS1 are weak. I sold mine after finding some dirt in my MAF housing. I use Frams and replace them when they get dirty. No more dirt in the intake tract and the same performance.

[B]How does the saying go?!?! "For every test showing something for, I can show you one against"..
wow that is not only unusual but nearly impossible to believe, well for me anyways. i did a test of my own last fall. i took my car to the dyno and did 3 runs back to back with a k&n which had about 4-5000 miles on it and the car was at the same operating temp for each run. then i imediately pulled the k&n out and put a brand new fram filter and ran 3 back to back runs at the same operating temp for each run. the results, well i got a whopping 4.5 hp more with k&n with 5000 miles on it than i did with a brand new fram (whoopdidoo). it took me maybe 10 minutes to do all 6 runs and change the filter, i did this to eliminate as many temp variances as i possibly could. yeah i guess you could say that i wasted my time but it was just something i wanted to see for myself. now back to the origional question, if you whant to get a k&n because you think you're going to feel a difference don't get it because you probably wont feel the difference, but if you don't want to go to the partstore to get a filter untill you pay your car off than get it.
