I would say it will be about the same either way.

Personally, I want an open filter.

Anyone know the best/most inexpensive place to get em?

An FIPK does not include a new MAF. You keep your old one.

I just don't like having an open filter under the hood at all. Too much hot air under there.
I'll stick to my lid and SSRA.

I picked up a used FIPKII for $50 plus my stock air box and then sold my aftermarket lid for $50 (which was what I paid for it several years ago). There is no difference in performance, not that I expected one. I did it because it really didn't cost me anything and I like how it looks. As a bonus, the filter doesn't need to be cleaned as often as the one in the airbox.

So to anwer the question, no it isn't "better" than an aftermarket lid. It is just different. A Volant intake would be better than the FIPK IMO because it is sealed against the hood. Either way, ram air is more of a marketing gimick and an appearance mod on these cars.
