Intakes?
Re: Intakes?
OK..so you mean the lid. Get either the SLP or Whisper and keep the paper filter. The K&N doesn't fit correctly (IIRC from other posts) and won't really help you at all. Look at the size of that filter, it's not a restriction really.
Also look for posts regarding the SSRA ...Not sure exactly how it is setup since I already own a ram air...but supposedly is very nice

It's not the full SSRA kit, but it's just like the FTRA or SLP CAI for less money than either of those. $170 for the FTRA and $130 for the SLP normally.
Re: Intakes?
There are many people that seem to have a problem with the oil from the K&N coating their MAF sensor and causing the car to run like crap. The flow rates don't seem to be enough to categorize it as a real performance mod. The best aspect of the oiled gauze filters is their longevity but when you factor into how many paper filters you could buy for the cost of a K&N with the recharge kit, it's really a moot point.
Re: Intakes?
from what i've seen, if you have a ram air hood already, the K&N or Volant are good pieces
if you don't, you're better off getting the lid and SSRA. it will give you great gains.
a lid is a lid is a lid....there isn't enough PROVEN difference between any of them to warrent chosing one over the other, unless you like the look better.

It's an easy fix. Take the K&N out of the car and place a thick bead of silicon sealant around the top of the rubber edge. Allow it to fully set up overnight, and then reinstall. You'll notice the lid is more difficult to close from the snug fit, and you can see the (new) rubber seal you just made clearly sealing up the entire way around the lid.
Me, I just think the clear lid looks cool. Here it is on my car.

Re: Intakes?
Clear lids don't seem to be as durable as ABS plastic. That and clear plastics tend to yellow. Its just a preference thing.
Forget the siliconE bead mentioned above. Just get some foam rubber seal from a hardware store that has adhesive on 1 side. Cut it to size and it'll work. Or just get a Holly cool blue filter that has the taller seal.
I have yet to have any probs with the filter oil coating the MAf sensors. Just dont over oil it. If you do, just clean the wires off w/some electrial contact cleaner.
