HOT CAM KIT vs... LS6 Conversion..
What do you guys think about LS6 conversion on a 2000 ls1? Or should I consider the HOT CAM...which I am trying to find more info about it.... What can you tell me about the HOT CAM? What's better for the $$$ ammount?

Hotcam 218/228 .525/.525 112 lsa. About $400. I made 381/373 with it.
LS6 Conversion is a heads and cam change. About $2000.
Just an LS6 cam change will probably mak similar numbers to a Hotcam. I depends onn the car.

do you think gas mileage will be the same then? I have a 2000 LS with headers, loud mouth, and a 4.10 M6. That's about as much modding as I have done...and oh yeah the 85mm MAF...no biggie. So then it's more pro's towards the HOT CAM then right? What else is needed for th HOT CAM? Any other engine parts that are needed to upgrade as a result in putting in a HOT CAM? Any info you have would be awsome.

When I did the Hotcam I changed to
LS6 Intake ($300)
ASP Pulley ($200)
Oil Pump ($129)
Thermostat ($45)
Timing Set ($100)
Hotcam kit (springs and retainers) ($300 - on the open market)
Valve seals ($15)
LS6 Coolant lines ($35)
Some were just general maintenance items that were easy to change with the motor apart, so it wa the best time to do so. Particularly the oil pump, valve seals, and timing set. All of the parts and install ran about $1500.

There was a post comparing the Hot Cam to the LS6 cam a while back, and IIRC, the concensus was that the LS6 cam made a little less power/torque off idle, but pulled really hard up top, while the Hot Cam made better power off idle, and similar power up top. Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure that's the deal. I'd say for street applications, the Hot Cam may be the better choice, but again, let's wait for some more feedback first.

peak #s might be similar but a hotcam will definitely make more power down low.
ls6 cam is good if you want a cheap and streetable cam.
if you want alot of power go with a hotcam or something like it.

What about price. The LS6 conversion I have seen in upwards of 2500 bucks...or so...without install. Then I have also seen the HOT CAM for about 500 bucks...but without all the extra little things.... What's the final price of a HOT CAM installed for those of you who have it.....

Not sure what the total price is .. but I know someone who had the hotcam in a 00 LS1. The performance was awesome, but I'm still wondering besides the cost of the cam itself.. what else would be needed and how much does it cost..
I know that for an automatic you definately need reprogramming. I assume new rods, lifters, springs.. might also be in order??

So if I envest in the HOT CAM setup, I now have a 4.10 in the back...will it rip apart my rear end if it's still stock? What are the odds of me ripping my car apart with a stronger engine?

So you never know, it might hold it might not. Ride it till she blows, and have Moser on hold.
