Fuel Filter and STP Injector Cleaner

I want to change my fuel filter. Are all fuel filters the same or do I need a specific one like the oil filter. If I need a specific filter, how do I know what kind to get?

Also, is STP Injector Cleaner any good? I thought I would get a bottle just for the hell of it.

Thanks

Any name brand fuel filter will be fine. After you replace fuel filter it would be a good idea to add that slp cleaner, Just don't use it to often as it will dry out injector seals causing them to leak. .

Injector cleaner is pretty much snake oil. A proper injector cleaning requires the removal of the injectors. It can't hurt much though.

Lucas or Redline Injector cleaners are great. Lucas can be bought at Autozone and Redline can be bought at Pep Boys.

For fuel injector cleaner the only stuff that ever worked for me is 3M fuel system cleaner. You can get just the stuff for your gas tank at Napa, but if you want a noticable difference an have at least 80k mi or so, go to a shop that offers the full fuel system cleaner.
The shop I work at offers it for $80, but it wirk great. The 3.1L GM motors will set and engine codes for misffires because of dirty injectors, the 3M fuel system cleaner always make then run smoother at an idle and the miss is gone. The code doesn't come back either.
I just bought my 99 Z28 with 50k mi a week ago so I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I will when I get a chance.

it's been my experience....

AND from all I've read on Z28.com that any kind of additives, cleaners, and even octane boosts only cause trouble and as the above post states : SANKE OIL. Hey, just my 2 cents, I won't ever put any additives to the oil or gas lines.

Pretty much anything you can buy off the shelf to run through your fuel system is not going to work that well. If they were strong enough to do what they claim, i.e. remove varnish and gum, I guarantee they wouldn't be emissions legal. To really clean your injectors you need to take them out and use the process that shops do with that machine.
