Dude, you were talking about a lid, now you talking about a ram air setup. Two different things

With a lid...no, you do not have to cut anything.

With the FTRA or the like...yes, you do have to cut.

Never heard of a !baffles mod but you don't have to worry about them anyway.

Being the hardcore guy I am I did the FRA on my V6 Camaro and it wasn't worth the troubles on that car. The little gain wasn't worth the pine needles the filter collected.

I could see it being a worthy mod on a LS1 though.

If you commonly drive on back roads or where there is tall grass being hit by the plastic spoiler under the car, crap will get blown up into the filter area. Leaves, grass, pine needles, bugs and small sticks can blow up into the filter cavity and even get lodged at the top of the radiator AC condensor area. If you use a K&N they tend not to seal real good. I get little bits of grass every now and then stuck on the front of my MAF screen. I check the filter and surrounding areas about once a month. You just have to remember to check everything periodically.

I use my 98Z28 as a daily driver and sometimes at work it can get pretty dusty. So, I made a block off out of thin sheet aluminum that slides under the air box and below the filter. I keep in in place with 2 small screws. If I know I'm going crusin with the Z, I can easily unscrew it, slide out the sheet, re-attach the lid and I'm back in business. Takes about 5 minutes.

I think this mod is one of the best FREE mods you can do. Noticable difference.
