found very cheap 98 Z28. need to know about it....

i just found a dark blue 98 Z28 lastnight for $7500 OBO. i would be buying it now rather than selling my 97Z first before someone grabs up this deal. i need to know what common problems i need to look for when buying. the car is an A4 and i am not yet sure about the mileage.
also, i wanted to know what you do about programming, does LS1 edit work on the 98? how much does that cost?
please let me know whatever you know about these cars so i don't make a bad buy. i'm very familiar with the LT1 but have never touched an LS1.
thanks,
Michael.

ok, i figured out why it's so cheap. it is a salvage vehichle. it was in a flood, the water reached the bottom of the seats. the seats (cloth) are clean though and the carpet has been replaced. it has 79k miles on it. what do you guys think about that price? what if i could get it for $6700?
i've seen the car around in town for the past couple years so i would think if it was to have any problems related to the flood, it would have by now.
also, keep in mind, i'm in college and should be owning the car for 4 or 5 years modding it and puttin miles on it, is this the way to go? or should i steer clear of it.?

I think it would be great for a drag car. If you wanted just a weekend toy to mod out the ying yang for 10-11 second timeslips then I say go for it. Great price for an LS1 that runs. If the car would be a daily driver then I would pass.

Take it for a test drive and see how it feels/sounds. If you end up buying it then throw a yank 4400 TC, all bolt-ons, roll cage, sticky tires and have some fun at the track. If it becomes a drag monster then you may be removing the back seats, passanger seat and replacing the driver seat anyway.

My vote is:

Drag racing toy: Go for it!

Daily driver: Pass unless a certified mechanic gives it a very complete inspection and it passes with flying colors.

Good Luck

My first Camro (1994 Z28) had a flooded title. I got it for 5k with 48,xxx on the clock. She ran like a champ. Not a damn thing wrong. I really missed selling her
But I got my 2002 out of it

ok, i got her to let me bring the car back to my garage and check it out. it has a serious hesitation problem. i scanned it and it came up as an 02 sensor so i'm switcing them out for the ones that are on my car. would 02's cause this bad of a hesitation throughout the rpm's? or could it be the cat? or something more seroius? i don't know enough about these cars, i need you guy's help so i don't buy a lemon. it pulled real hard a couple times when it didn't miss that bad, but wow, when it's off it is way off.
oh and by the way, i must be color blind, the car is black with chrome wheels.
can you give me the code for 3.23 gears and 2.73 gears? i'm not sure which is has

well guys, i think i'm going to pass this car up. it's cheap, but my 97 is ALOT nicer. this car looks like it's never had a coat of wax on it and it needs a complete tune-up...plugs, wires, filters, sensors, ect. it's filthy on the inside, it has a couple cigarette burns on the cloth seats, and it's been smoked in alot (you can smell it.) what else will need to be replaced to make it run good? coils? that's probably expensive. i don't know, i just don't think it's worth $7000 even being a salvage title. i had my friend race (me in the LS1, him in my stock LT1) and he jumped me on the line and i could not catch him for anything. then we went from 50mph and it was dead even the entire time. that thing needs alot of work.
what do you guys think it's worth given the description i just gave you?

Sounds to me like it's barely worth the value of the engine. I wouldn't pay any more than 5k for that car. It's gonna take a lot of work to get that thing back to working order. If it was anywhere near good condition it would have left that LT1 so it probably has some serious electrical damage somewhere.

Exactly. This is a NO brainer!!! KEEP your '97 Z28 or look for a much, much nicer LS1 F-body. Trust me, you'll have no problem finding a clean/reliable '98 or '99 for roughly $9-$11 grand.

But yeah, it sounds like that car is sick right now(probably needs a big-time tune up). It would make a great drag car though for roughly $5,000 or so(even with that salvage title).

Sounds like a smart move. Just for future reference the codes are:

gu2=2.78

gu5=3.23

The code will be on the sticker on the drivers door.
