Loud ticking

I have a quick question, the 6.0 is the same as your engine right? Just more displacement. My friend has the 6.0 and he has a loud ticking coming from the drivers side. He put the STP treatment crap in it and it quit making the noise for awhile. It is only really noticable at idle and above 2500 rpms, but it is still there at lower rpms just not as loud. Two days ago he brought it to the dealer and today they told him that it is a perfectly normal sound for these engines and all of the new V8's make this sound. I was wondering if any of you have had these problems or have an idea what it is. It is definetly coming from the valvetrain. I was thinking lifter, but could this be the famed piston slap? Thanks ahead of time. I guess this wasn't a quick question.

Sounds like a bent pushrod to me.

Ya, I know it was coming from the valvetrain but we need some fuel to fight the dealer. We all know how they are.

I have a ticking sound that starts when my car is idling for a while. When I rev the car, and raise the oil pressure, the tick goes away. It'll come back if I let the car idle for a while again.

The dealer told me this was normal. I have no loss of power, and the car runs fine, so I figured "screw it". I've been looking at one of those MTI 422 ci LS1 motors lately anyways.

We just got back from the dealer awhile ago. They said the exact same thing, "it's normal". At the same time I found an exhaust leak that they couldn't find or where just to lazy to find. Then they gave him a bullitin that said that it was normal and there is no effect in the long run. So he's just going to run it and hope it blows up. The kicker is that the sound isn't the"normal" piston slap and it does it diffrently than what the bulliten said. I hate dealers. If somebody has anymore ideas on what it is let me knoe. Thanks.

It's normal unless you start noticing a problem with how it runs. These aluminum block engines don't insualate noises like the iron blocks do.

Mine does the same thing, from the driver's side also, but it has not lost any performance. I thought about a bent pushrod but its an A4 and it idles very smooth. Just has that tick.
