Engine swap from V6 RS to BB427

I want to buy a 1998-2002 camaro but I dont Have enough cash rite now to get a Z28 or SS with a V-8 so i wanted to know if it would be possible to get a camaro Rs with a manual V-6 and wen i get the money do a engine swap and drop a BB 427 in it. Will the transmition bolt up or would I need to get a new one? has anybody done this before? and finally should I get a furel injected 427 or a carbureted?( I plan on running No2)

Thanks

i don't know for sure, but I don't think they RS have the same transmission as the Z28/SS. So I would imagine that you would need a new trany, especially with that much power. For a 98 the diff between v-6 and v-8 are minimal unless ur concerned about milage. Try to find a cheap 98 v-8. 2002 V-6s are going to be just as much as a 98 V-8

if you get a v6, and then swap engines, you're gonna have to swap transmissions too.

all in all, it'd probably be a better, and possibly, cheaper idea to just get a v8 in the first place and then just mod the fk out of that whenever the cash becomes available. you can get over 400 c.i.'s out of an ls1 block. and if you buy a v8 in the first place, you'll already have the transmission for it, suspension fit for the larger engine, and everything else necessary already on the car.

i used to have a 94 v6 camaro, and my old dream was always to drop a lt1 in there, and that would have been a rather expensive endeavor.

so, hope this helped some....

If you don't think you can afford a '98 - '02 V8 Camaro, don't think that it's going to be any cheaper to drop a big block under the hood of a V6 car?! Like it's already been mentioned, the tranny won't be the same, and then all the extra work to fit that huge engine, along with other problems you'll run into such as trying to fit exhaust manifolds and an exhaust system, it'll be a big PITA!!!! Save a few extra $$$ and buy an LS1 Camaro. It'll be cheaper and easier in the long run. Just my $.02.

that kind of project is not very feasable money wise.

off the top of my head, the manual tranny from an RS would be the T5, which is well known to not handle power much over 300# of torque, which a BB427 would probably be putting out at a little over idle.

and as mentioned you need a custome set of manifolds/headers and probably new motor mounts, etc.

not to mention the stock 10 bolt will turn into scrape with that much power, on top of the fact the v6 rear will be open differential.

if you wanted to do something like that you'd be better off buying a V8 car, probably one with an LT1 since they are cheaper, and then you'll have the t56 tranny, which is nearly bulletproof. and if you wanted some big CI after that either stroke it or go for a Motown 427" small block that summit sells.

sorry to shoot down your dream.

Yet more problems with the BB in a V6....cooling system, those BB's create a lot of heat and the electric fans and stock radiator aren't going to cut it. Then you have the problem of getting your accessories to bolt onto the BB.

Your best bet would be what has been said, buy an older LS1 F-body, or get the V6 now and mod the hell outta it (forced induction does wonders for 6 cyls) then you still have cheaper insurance , or sell it when you can get the LS1 that you want.

I had the same dream once. First Camaro was a 97 V6... I thought, yeah I'll just buy an old corvette engine, rebuild it, and drop it into the body. Then I started doing research on the feasability of it, and it wasn't pretty. Nothing matches up right, even the guages would be all screwed up. And to get the engine out, you'd have to pull apart the whole front end and drop it out the bottom of the car. It's a MAJOR undertaking, which I decided was not worth it in the long run... so I started shopping for a Z. MUCH happier with the outcome than if I'd stuck w/my original plan.

i have a 1998 v6 and i am saving to do a motor swap. i also am going with a 427. not sure which motor but possibly a lq4 block bored and stroked to 427ci. doing a motor swap can save money and at the same time be a waste, just depends on the hp you want. with me my motor will push 600 fwhp and on top of that run nitrious. its cheaper to just do a motor swap for me because whether or not i have a v6 or z28 i would still have to swap out tranny and rearend with that much hp. so why waste my time buying a z28 when all i will do is swap out tranny and rearend anyway, and even possibly motor. but if you are wanting sa around 400-550 hp out of a v8 i say just wait and buy a z28 and go from there. thats my 2 bits....
