Engine and Boost
I'd have to disagree that boost is bad on the LS1. Go to ls1.com and see all the guys making 450rwhp through stock manifolds and cats on the stock block.
The LS1 is much much more capable than the LT1.

Yeah, but I can make that or more with a heads/cam setup, or 100 shot and with less drama. No timing issues, slipping belts, added weight, intercooler plumbing, tuning issues, etc. Trust me, I was really leaning towards an ATI blower, but it seemed too much hassle. With heads/cam/bottom end and spray you can have a reliable, consistent 500+ rwhp car that you tune once and forget about it. Just my opinion. If I were to do a turbo, I'd do an iron block and 6.0 heads with forged low-compression everything. That is big bucks and lots of tuning to get it right. Again, JMO...
I see the point you're making, to let you know where i'm coming from, i just recently sold my NX kit to purchase a powerdyne. It was fun, but i couldn't stay off the bottle- with the powerdyne i don't have to goto the store to buy more boost fluid.
Oh believe me, I plan on spending big bucks. I have financial aid money, plus two jobs.
I plan on getting the engine mods, forced induction (whichever I decide to go w/), and direct port nx injection.
I can have the best of both worlds
Or...is that going to kill me

If your seriously planning of dropping a lot of cash, how about getting a ~ 7 liter LS1 block and ported heads? 450-500+ rwhp or more (depending on how radical you want) naturally aspirated.. Then have an occasional 200 shot of nitrous on top of that if thats not enough.. and it would be reliable..
Top it off, all the mods for extra displacement and airflow is internal... so nobody would know your displacing 7 liters, until you fire it up and leave em behind..
Best of all worlds..except price...
