Engine and Boost

Sup Guys.

What would I need to get in order to be able to push as much boost lbs as possible? Forged internals and stuff, is there anything beyond that? If it helps, I plan on getting a turbo for my car.

With building the engine so it can take the boost, is it going to help my car pick up speed as well? Or is it solely heavy duty sh*t meant to take the beating?

start with getting a lid and some headers and catback and the basic boltons before you get into the big stuff

just my 2 cents

Well, if he's set on turbocharging his car, then headers really are a waste of money...

Yes you'll want forged internals, and lower the compression a few points (9:1 at most!) if you want to be able to push atleast 1 bar...

And actually, building up the engine for boosting, will lose you some power (until you get the turbocharger hooked up of course) because lower compression = less power in an NA car. When you DO boost it though, it'll allow you to turn up the boost to atleast a reasonable level without detonating the hell out of your engine.

Oh and if you're serious about getting turbo-ing your car, get an aftercooler/intercooler (I see them called different things by different people) - if you're going to do it do it right

I can run a turbo charger w/o one of those intercoolers? I thought it was part of the system meaning, you can't run it without one?

I think the little mods are a waste if you're going forced induction. What are your horsepower goals. If its around 450rwhp then you don't need a new engine.

Try asking in the forced induction section of the board. Theyd be the experts.

yea your best bet is to go to forced induction....but you should defintly get all the suspension upgrades first

at least sfc and lca

You can run it without one just fine ... the intercooler delivers colder air, and because colder air is denser than warm air, it gets more oxygen into the intake.

More oxygen = more HP.

Thumbs down

I'm not a big fan of forced induction on the LS1. Harlan seems to be the only guy having great results (150 mph traps). I'm going heads/cam and later some nitrous. Check the forced induction board and see if you can get an iron block as well.

I have a TNT 100 wet shot now myself, but the shop doing my heads/cam won't warranty the work if you spray. Looks like I'll be off the jug for a while...

NX and TNT use the same 'noids and are the best out there IMO. But, since I have TNT, it's WAY better!
