coolant questions

I'm going to get a coolant flush pretty soon and was wondering if I should switch from the Dex-Cool. I've noticed the dip stick in the resevoir is covered with some crusty stuff I've been told is dried Dex-cool. I think I've also heard somewhere that GM has stopped using it or doesn't recomend it anymore?

Any advice? Thanks.

only thing i have heard of that was better than dexcool is Evans brand coolant called NPG. me personally, i would stick to the dexcool. do you see any scale on the tubes in the radiator? if not, wouldn't see any reason to not continue with the dexcool. if you have a multimeter, you can check for voltage. if its the original coolant, depending on mileage, i would allow 1 to 1.5v. if t is less than that, it means that the dexcool did its job.

I had that brown crud on my dipstick when I bought my car.

Make sure you go to a radiator shop with a powerflushing machine. This machine thoroughly gets all the junk out of your radiator and makes it clean. I had mine powerflushed and refilled with DexCool. Then I just steamcleaned my dipstick myself.

I don't think anyone recommends leaving the DexCool in for 150K miles.

make sure also that they use pure, distilled water!! the Ozarka man was wrong when he said his water is too good for his radiator. it actually isn't good enough.
