Coolant/AC problem?

OK so here is the situation. I drive to Philly to see a game, everything, AC is working fine. I go back to my car and coming out of the parking lot a light comes on. It takes me a while to figure out its the low coolant light (bottle with an arrow pointing towards the bottom) I check the coolant but it appears to be full (kind of hard to tell in the dark with brown crap all over the stick) and I had just checked under the radiator cap the day before. On the way home I'm eyeing the temp guage like crazy but it's running a nice cool 185* even stopped at lights. THEN I notice that the AC is not really on and making funny noises. I turn it all the way up and the noises get louder until it starts working again. I pull over and look under the hood and notice that the AC condensor is very cold and very wet and there is actually ice forming on one of the metal connectors off one of the hoses of the condensor. I drive the rest of the way home with no AC and the low coolant light still on. After I got home I turned it off, then back on and drove it around town for a while with no AC but no light either. SO, what the hell is the problem? Are these things connected somehow? If it is just low coolant I don't think that would explain the AC thing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I know the temp guages are not the best in the world but mine is a 98 (which I've heard is better somewhat) and it usually tells me when it is running a little hot in traffic or anything.

How hard is it to get to the coolant sensor? I can see it but not sure about how to get to it. Is it best to try from the top or underneath the car?

Do LS1's have TXV's or fixed orifice tubes?
