Leaks or no leaks, it didn't stop me from buying a T-top car!

While you may be right that a large majority of T-top cars do leak somewhat, I don't believe that the LEAKS are as bad (in most cases) as what you're making them out to be. Like I said in an earlier post, I know of a '95 and a '96 F-body, as well as my '02 that do NOT leak large volumes of water into the car. Maybe when high-pressure water is aimed directly at the top of the window a few drops get in, but that's it........DROPS! I'm sure that is the case with most cars.........it's not like there are buckets of water flowing in as if the car didn't have a roof or any weather stripping at all!!

And besides, while that may be 1 "negative aspect" of T-top cars, name me a car which is as cool, sporty, and fast as a T-top F-body that doesn't have some serious "negative aspects" of its own.

Agreed. Most of the guys with leaks admit that it happened while getting their car washed or water was sprayed directly at the seals.

Like I said before, I was just trying to inform the guy that if he buys a t-top car, it might leak.

Mine leaks when it's raining outside and I'm going 65-70 MPH, or when I wash my car. Funny, when I drive or wash any other car, neither one of these things happen.

It gets annoying when water starts coming into a 4 yr. old car, especially when people are riding in it, and also having to tape up the weatherstripping so it won't leak and carry paper towels to dab the window and inside to prevent water from spilling over. I think that a no modern car should leak at all. How would you feel if you plopped down $30K for a brand new car and water leaks inside of it?

Ever considered that perhaps your T-tops are leaking beacuse of you not maintaining the seals properly? A little vaseline goes a long way.

Electric tape sure is a great fix.

This is the exact reason why I wanted T-Tops. Used to have a targa top on my old mk3 Supra, absolutely loved it. Never liked the way covertibles look with the top up though. The whole "open air driving" but still feeling like your surrounded by the car is a cool feeling.

I maintain all of my weatherstripping and black trim properly by treating it with ArmorAll every month.

Electrical tape is a great fix because I have a TEAR in my stripping, please tell me how Vaseline is going to seal a tear? Last time I remebered, Vaseline doesn't get hard to seal a leak, it just remains in its liquid state. During a hard rain, or washing the car, the pressure will take it right off of the car.

If you have a tear, the stripping needs to be replaced.

I still stand by the fact that properly maintained tops don't leak. I know mine don't, and it's bad advice to go around saying they do. I'm sure there's been instances where tops have began leaking, and I'm also sure most of them are exxagerated.

I've owned this car since February and have only had the t-tops out 4 times. All of those times they were properly placed in the trunk and properly placed and locked back on the roof.

Before I ever took my t-tops out, they leaked, so I thought the previous owner didn't have seated correctly, so I did everything to make them fit properly. The tears in the t-top rubber are in the same place on both panels, so it has to be a mftg. error, or, the previous owner wanted to be a jackass and cut a slit in the rubber in the same place on each one. I'm not replacing the weatherstripping, I'll just keep using tape for now, because you can't notice that it's there.

Lastly, I don't go around saying that my t-tops leak. If I meet another F-Body owner I won't even mention it, unless he asks me, and then what am I supposed to do, lie and say they don't leak when they do? Come on...

I'm open about the problems I've had with my car.

It's fine to say "my T-tops leak" but to say something like "most F-body owners with T-tops experience leaks" is wrong and misleading.

If I had to do it over again I would have a hard top.

I LOVE the t tops, but mine leak sometimes and they make LOTS of wind noise, seriousley If I was buying another I would have spent the money on the V8 or manual and got a hard top.

And this is coming from a guy who bought a camaro specificaly because it was T Top

As far as the whole leak issue, the most I've noticed from mine is a few drops during heavy downpours. As long as water isn't coming in at a high rate then it's pretty much a non-issue in my eyes.
