Hi Everyone;

I am interested in adding aftermarket water and transmission temperature guages to my vehicle. My question is not where to place the guages, but where to place the sending units.

I just installed a deeper cast aluminum transmission pan, and the thought of drilling into it does not sit well with me. So here goes:

1. Where would you install the water temperature sending unit?

2. Where would you install the transmission temp sending unit?

My vehicle is a 2001 Z28 with an A4 transmission.

I would like to knwo the same of the water temperature gauge hook up! No one seems to reply to this question.

 

Cuz not that many people buy temp gauges. But i want to and have the very same question

 

For all interested, here is what I found out concerning the water temperature guage install.

On the passenger side cylinder head by the #8 pulg (ofcourse), there is a metric plug that can be removed. You need to purchase an adapter M12X1.5, that will allow you to use the standard threaded sending unit. After the sending unit install, it is all a matter of hooking the wires to the guage.

I do need some information concerning the transmission sending unit placement, can anyone help?

Cool I am going to have to look into that. So the autometer sending unit will fit into this M12x1.5?

Basically, the water temp sender will require an adapter to fit in the back of the passenger cylinder head, and the tranny temp sender will fit in the tranny drain plug (I can vouch that it fits on the manual - I *assume* it fits on the auto too?).

Thanks for the information. I ordered an adatper from one of the links provided, in which when it is delivered in and I attempt the install I'll begin another thread about my findings.

 

I connected the wire to the sending unit, installed the adapter into the drivers side head so now the gauge works, but for some odd reason the car is not starting. I think maybe the spark plug wire has coolant on it and will dry?

 

Well, I got it to start. I found that the stock sending unit had to also be hooked up, in order for the computer to know what was going on. So now my water temp works in my gauge pod and the stock temp gauge now shows an inaccrurate cylinder head/engine bay temp!
