strange smell when accelerating
Everytime I accelerate hard, every damn time, I smell something like a burning smell coming from up front. no, its not a sulphur smell, it's like a plastic or maybe even oil burning smell. what is this?
My suggestion is check your belt(s) for slipage. The idler pulley may not be tight enough allowing the belt to slip and get too hot, burning it in the process. Just something you can check and mark off your list of possibilities.

how about instead of talking crap, you actually get off your *** and look it up yourself, or take it to the dealer
alright, blown out of proportion. I wasn't saying that to be a smart *** or jerk, just that everyone was just saying a bunch of BS and no solid answers. For your information, I DID check everything I could think of and didn't find anything. I always try to avoid the dealer.
Could be a number of things, and i'm not gonna name them all cause i dont feel like hearing all sorts of replies of why thats not what caused this smell. All i can say is that my car does it every now and again the 89' cutlass does it, and the 88' caprice i used to have did it all the time. I just wouldnt worry about it.
I get a smell like gear oil burning wen I wind it up in third gear. I hear the third gear synchros ar e bad so I just figure it's those and they'll let loose one of these days, hopefully while it's still under warrenty.
I can almost guarantee you I know what it is:
The small light in the ashtray. It gets very hot and heats up the plastic in the ashtray. I notice this when I've been driving with the headlights on for more than 20 min. Hope that helps.
