Coated headers or not?

Just a quick question. I saw where Hooker LTs that were uncoated cost only $409. This is significantly less than the coated headers. Is it worth it to get them coated? I don't care about looks, I just don't want to have problems down the road if they are uncoated. Thanks!

Josh

save yourself the money, get black. Coating them is a waste of $200 you could use on other performance mods. If you must have them visible, then just use some HIGH HEAT engine paint 1200 degrees and spray paint them chrome using that stuff. A can of that stuff costs like $4. It looks pretty damn good to. Do not get them coated! Buy some gears with the $.

I wouldn't even think twice about getting them coated. It keeps the temperatures wayyy down, and with a crowded engine compartment these cars have I wouldn't have it any other way. Oh, call up Jet-hot. They have LT headers for LS1 and LT1's for something like $508 coated and shipped to your door. Believe who you want but with my coated headers I can put my finger 1-2"s away from the headers when they're hot and not even feel the heat.

Call Chris at Jet-hot. 1-800-432-3379 ext 110 . I'd say there just as good as others, and the coating won't ever peel off. Check out the thread in the group purchases section on them.

I'd definetly get the headers coated. Save you time and money and trouble, do it once and do it right

i would get them coated for two reasons, longevity in terms of corrosion, and velocity. The coating is claimed to be internal as well which will aid in gas veocity. This may help in keeping temps down but I would not think that it makes a large magnitude as the coating probably has an "R" value that is very low.

Also, if you buy Jet Hot coated headers they carry a lifetime guarantee to never rust. If they do, you get new headers. How many uncoated headers do you know of come with a lifetime guarantee?

I'm pretty sure all Long Tube headers will yield the same HP gains. No there may not be any dyno #'s yet but look at it this way. Is it worth the extra $500 for an extra 1-5HP if ANY? I don't think so.

I have a pair of Jet Hots and the matching Hooker Y-pipe sitting in my living room waiting for installation. I will likely do the install mid - summer. I'm thinking about doing a baseline run with the mods my car has prior to the install and then doing another one after they're on to see what I've gained.

Look for a post later this summer.
