Can I use ANY single prong Ignition Coil for my LS1?

Mine are going bad at around 63K miles... Isn't that a bit premature?

Anyway I found out the price for just ONE of those suckers is $45!!! If I'm going to pay that then I might aswell just go aftermarket...

My question is, can I get ANY single prong Ignition Coil from say MSD or Accel to work on the car or does it have to be specific? I notice MSD sells coils specially for our cars at $75... Personally my oppinion is, if I'm going to spend big then I might aswell go all the way, gain or no gain...

Considering you can almost buy 2 stock coils for 1 MSD and that fact that you're not going to have any benefits from them. Whats the point in spending $700 for 8 as opposed to $360? Thats basically $340 more just for red coils.

I figured it would match the colour of my car...

j/k

Anyway, besides the MSD's... you can go to Pepboy's and see ignition accessories... Lets say I find an Aftermarket Single Prong Coil for $40 (Not the $75 REPLACEMENT coils)... Would these coils connect and function as regular on an LS1 or do I really need to find a REPLACEMENT coil?

You're probably better off going LS based coils. Single prong coils were used for so many years by many different manufacturers who knows what you'll get.
Then you have the issue of if they can handle the output to them and how much will they output.
Plus how are you going to wire them up?
I know I'd personally rather get something that uses the stock wiring harness instead of having to Frankenstein something together.

I understand...

Thanks for the input

Just go stock coils. Plugs and wires alone on stock coils do more than the MSD coils will do. I know a couple of people who have picked up over a full number in the 1/4 by going with some good wires like taylors or the msd s/c's. And then they get excited, and turn around and go buy the MSD coil set, and they don't gain an ounce of jack crap.
