WHich cam....comp or thunder

im gonna have absolute speed stage 2 heads(most likely) with 100 shot nx

and i was wondering what cam to go with.....people say that thunder and comp is almost the same thing....

also what cam 224 224??? or the split duration 224 228

i need to stay emissions friendly and it will be street driven car....

the thunder is made by Comp.

EDIT: forgot about the NOS. Id probably go with a dual pattern if I was spraying.

the one difference in getting a cam from thunder or straight from Comp is price. I got my Comp for 350 vs thunders 425 or so. but thunder will cam doctor the cam for you if thats important.

the only other thing is wait time. Comp had to grind my cam, and it took a month and a half to get. this didnt matter to me though as the car was garaged for the winter at the time. Thunder usualy has the cams in stock if you are planning on installing right away.

my cam is not quite he same as the thunder cams, its a 224/224, but they are the same lobe line that MTI uses for the Hammer cam, just 2 deg bigger.

I was waiting on cam blanks/cores (or whatever you call em) for most of that. once they got them back from quality controll it was about a week and a half, they had to ship it to the place I ordered it, then they shipped it to me. If you dont get an odd cam (i had them grind it on a 112 instead of the 114 LSA which they stocked) they might have it in stock.

BTW, for NOS Id go with a 114 LSA

as for emmisions though, I have no clue if it will pass...

the power isnt going to be much higher, 1 maybe 2 hundred RPM.

N2O and FI apps like wider LSA's as a general rule. I belive its because smaller LSA's mean more overlap, and more overlap means more chance of loosing some of the gas (or pressure in a boosted application) out the exaust, where it gets wasted. something along those lines

Also, if emmisions is a concern, overlap is bad. you have a much better chance of passing sniffer with a 114 than a 112

Actually some FI guys are going with 112LSA's to help prevent head lifting. But these are higher HP guys. In general they do like higher LSA's though.

the stock cam is 116, and it doesnt rev to 6800.

LSA is less important than duration in deciding the power range of the cam

LOL, no, it isnt.

without the limiter it might physicaly make it to 6800, but you wouldnt have any power up there
