97-99 LS1's doing 400rwhp?
Just incase you guys jump down my throat (wait a min..that would never happen on ls1.com
) there was a 97 ls1 and it was put in a c5 corvette. I see alot of cam only ls1's (2000+) models pushing 400rwhp with boltons including and a cam. Have any of you seen 97-99's doing 400rwhp or real close to it with all the boltons (including ls6 intake) and a cam? The head castings in 2000 (or was it 2001?) changed to a new part #. Although said to be the same, do you think thats where the added power
comes from?
thanks,
Corey

In addition to the LS6 intake, I think the '01-'02 LS1s received other minor enhancements that may have contributed to increased power- larger fuel injectors, slightly better flowing exhaust manifolds, the smaller truck cam (which may actually deliver better low end torque), and maybe some PCM re-tuning. Overall, the increase in power may be a little more than just the advertised 5 horses.

Anyway I agree with the other guys. Even with the addition of the LS6 the average stock output was 355-365rwhp. Its going to take all the boltons or maybe a little more to get 400rwhp.
I also agree with JaysZ. GM never rated the LS1 correctly and I'm sure there is definitely more than the advertised 5hp difference. Weiand advertises 12hp with the LS6 manifold so theres at least 12 right there.
I'm pretty sure the 01 and 02 injectors are just as large as the 98 injectors if not larger. The cam in the 01s and 02s does offer more low end torque but at the same time sacrifices high end torque.....

Maybe you guys don't understand what I was asking..I am not talking about stock power #'s. Honestly, how many cam only w/ bolton 97-99's have you seen close to the 400rwhp mark? I don't know of any. I have seen quite a few 2000+ models tho. Let me know what you guys think.

Having a smaller cam in the newer LS1's (as with any engine) would actually decrease the peak HP. Smaller cams generate torque at lower RPM at the sacrifice of higher HP ratings. Thats why I couldn't care less about HP ratings. Give me torque numbers!!!
With all that said. I really can't say that '01-'02 LS1s are really faster. I've ran some stock ones with my stock '00 and we were neck and neck. I pretty much boiled down to who was shifting better or who got the better launch.

with all the boltons and a aggressive cam you can get a 98-02 ls1 car in the 390-400rwhp
there are several cam choices out there that can do it with the right headers and bolt ons and a good dyno tune
