Question 6 Bent PR's and play in the crank bolt...

Find the worst one.. The rest just rolled funny.. I'm doing a H/C swap, for those why don't know.

Anyway... When I left at the end of the night, the engine was still pretty warm. When we took the rocker arms off, we could barely hold them. THat's how fast we got my car apart! It took about 45 minutes to get the rockers and push rods off. We've got it down to a science now.. The first heads and cam swap was R&D, last year on my buddy's car. I'm just so excited to get this running!!!

Ok.. Second question... I had quite a bit of play in my crank bolt when it was still almost all the way in! Normal?? The bolt showed about a little over an inch of wear/use... was this still because the bolt is torque to yield or because things were still warm?? It also loosened VERY easily! 3 hard turns and it was finger loose. -How normal is this?

Oh, and the El Es Juan ate a crank pulley puller.... bent the frickin bolt/rod on the puller..

^ I'm doing a H/C swap.. My buddy was taking the driver's side PR's out and throwing them into a bin that was sitting on the noise of the car.. I was on the pass side working the same thing...

I just saw one of em out of the corner of my eye "Whoa! Wait a minute!!"

Any ideas on why the crank bolt had so much play?? I hope this isn't serious..

I think it was from this: Last year.. 4/28/07 I thought I was going slow enough for 1st gear.. I thunked wrong..

We messed around on the streets a little on the way back. I downed to first to break the tires loose, then to second to break em loose again...

I got home to park the car and it's making a ticking/rubbing sound now. It still does it the same when I disengage the clutch. You cannot hear it under the hood, just around the front part of the trans and near the driver's side wheel well..

I really hope it's not clutch related, shouldn't be. I really hope it isn't bent pushrods or a lifter issue...
The car is a 2000 Z28 w/ 40k miles on it. Any ideas?

I wouldn't worry about it. You'll use a new crank bolt anyway.

Damn bayer, looks like you put one of them in a pipe bender. Can't you find the torque specs somewhere? I don't it's supposed to be that loose, then again i've heard some nasty stories about people over torquing them.

^ the stock crank bolt loosened quite easily and it had a good amount of play.. I'm not too worried abotu it today.. (Oh, I'll also be posting updates on my swap thru this thread.. )

I've got a new concern... I found an eyelash on #6 piston (Not the one with the bent PR)..

How in the h3ll to you lash a stock internal engine?! And what's with the brown pistons?? I'm used to seeing black/gray..

I wouldn't worry too much about it now that you've got new heads. But I bet the valve on that piston (looks like #6) might look a little beat up...

Not sure on the brown pistons... possibly running a little lean?!

Yeah it looks like you were running a little lean, i don't know about the lash thats pretty strange. Atleast you got a nice set of heads.

About the crank bolt. All metric bolts have a different pitch angle and naturally fit looser than SAE. Once you break them loose they are loose in their holes or nuts.

Apparently due to the stock internals, valve float is how I lashed the piston. Over-revved again.... It's not too bad... It's really not that deep, but it's still there.
