Ticking... (MY car this time.)

My buddy w/ the 02 SOM SLP SS MS4 cam swap (-=Mod=-)and I went out to the mountains to do some canyon carving. We were turning about 3000+ rpm for the hard driving parts of the trip.
We messed around on the streets a little on the way back. I downed to first to break the tires loose, then to second to break em loose again...

I got home to park the car and it's making a ticking/rubbing sound now. It still does it the same when I disengage the clutch. You cannot hear it under the hood, just around the front part of the trans and near the driver's side wheel well..

I really hope it's not clutch related, shouldn't be. I really hope it isn't bent pushrods or a lifter issue...
The car is a 2000 Z28 w/ 40k miles on it. Any ideas?

trans mods:
T56 Rebuilds 4b
McLeod Single w/ MC Master, drill mod and 02 slave.

I cant point the finger at anything in particular there, I had to listen twice before I even heard it, but I dont think you have anything valvetrain related going on there.

Besides, a bent pushrod is a snap to fix, gives ya an excuse for some chrome moly ones anyway

I don't see how you guys can't hear what he's talking about. I can hear it, but I don't know what it might be. Sorry Bayer, hopefully somebody else can give you some insight.

^ It depends on the computer audio system. I can here it here, but not at work.

I think it may be a bent pushrod. My buddy still has his stockers from his MS4 cam swap..

easy & quick fix. I THINK that's what it is... I over rev'd it, but not to the limiter. only about 6300.

My buddy's stock lifters on his MS4 were REALLLLLLY loud! I can imagine. It's really quiet now w/ the new O ring and the LS7 lifters.

why would someone use LS7 lifters? would that make the car faster....or just quiet the valvetrain?

BTW, what is an MS4?

^ MS4 is a BIG Texas speed cam, 239/242, .649" .609" 112 LSA (selectable LSA, 112 on his). About the biggest cam you can trow into a stock LS1 with out fly cutting the pistons... That and the TReX.

THe LS7 Lifters can handle more lift then the stock LS1 lifters. Also additional lifter pressures. No extra power, just a good option for 'performance' lifters.

P.S., THis info migght be a little off... I'm quite drunk...

The LS7 lifters are now the stock replacement lifters for all Gen III/IV motors. All other lifter numbers have been supersceded so if you go to a dealer and ask for new lifters you automatically get the LS7 lifters.

And people change them out when going heads and cam because they will sustain higher RPMs without problems and due to access. On a Gen III/IV you have to pull the heads to change the lifters so when you have the heads off you change them just for GPs. They are only $99 a set from SDPC.

Bayer, you get any new info on this? I think I have the same problem. Doesn't seem to be a loss in power at all, and I've driven it many hundreds of miles, as well. It's not a constant noise.. it'll come and go on its own. SEEMS to be coming from the passenger side rear of the engine, although not completely sure.

^ some valve train noise is normal. Apparently the LS1 is kind of a noisy engine to begin with. Mine finally reached the break in point. -40k miles now. It may be normal, but since I deleted the cats, I don't really hear it as much any more. It's mainly at idle.

She's got some nice power. I need to have it re-tuned. I've got access to EFI live, but the WB O2 hasn't showed up yet from our MSD connection.

LS-based motors are stupid loud with noises. Thank god they make great power.

If you have the SLP exaust with the slip fit conectors I would say it sounds like the exaust check the joints to see if there is carbon around the joint. Mine sounds like that now I first thought it was the lifters but found out it is just a exaust leak.
