5.3 swap into a V6 firebird.

Anyone know what all would be included in swapping a 5.3 truck motor into a V6 firebird. Like will it need a 4L80E or will a 4L60E bolt up. What about a driveshaft, or a rearend that will handle the extra power. I have a friend that thinks it will be any easy swap, but I keep telling him there is more than just the motor swap involved. Like I'm sure the whole engine harness, pcm, tranny, driveshaft, rearend, and even the suspension will need to be taken into consideration to accommodate for the extra weight for the V8. Any help would be appreciated.

You'll need a new tranny. I think a 4l60 out of an LS1 car will do. The rear end should be fine. You'll need an entire new wiring harness, and a PCM out of an LS1 car that is programmed to deal with the 5.3. THe front will sag bad so you'll need some new front springs and shocks. I'm pretty sure you'll need an LS1 intake manifold too, since the truck manifolds are really big.

If the v6 car is 99 or later, you'll need to get an LS1 gas pedal and throttle cable, since later v6's had elec throttles. I'm sure there is more too.

Won't you need a new K-member, too? Well, at least one for an LS1 (maybe not exactly a new one).

You should probably post this thread over in the LS section of the forum, as this "is not" LT related. Basically, it is an LS engine swap.

Along with the LS1 intake, you will need LS1 accessories, fuel rail and injectors, I believe.

The rear should be fine. Its the same rear that was in v-6's lt1's and ls1's. You should find out what gear ratio is in there. You are going to at least want a 3.23. As stated, you will need a wiring harness, fuel system, maybe an intake manifold, ls1 k member, computer, etc.

Pretty sure he has 2.73's and it doesn't have a posi, so I advised him to either get a stronger one(9 inch or 12 bolt) especially if he wants more power later(turbo), or a stock posi with some taller gears.
