Post 2002 Z28 Question

I was wondering what gear the 6 speed Z28's come with? The package says High Performance tires but no gear ratio. Appreciate it! Steve

Cool

If you got a 6 speed, it has 3.42 gears stock.

In a 6-speed, most likely 3.42. But it can also be 2.73. A4's are 2.73 or 3.23.

When it has High Performance tires that does usually mean a better gear correct? Thanks

Viper's right. All M6 cars have 3.42s
A4 cars apparantly have 3.08s standard or 3.23s with the performance axle (this is according to Chevy's website)

To make sure what the car has, check out the RPO codes listed on the driver's door jamb:

For axle ratio:
GU2 - 2.73
GU4 - 3.08
GU5 - 3.23
GU6 - 3.42

For tires:
QFZ - 245/50R16 Goodyear RS-A
QLC - 245/50ZR16 Goodyear GS-C (Performance tires)

Exclamation

OK this is the awnser from the book.
if you have a 2002 Z28 SS WS6 or any other car that is from the factory not SLP. IF you have a 6 speed LS1 you have 3.42 no ifs, ands, or buts. this is from the 2002 sevice manual.

if you have an AUTO trans in a Z28 you have a 3.23 or 2.73 if you have a WS6 option you have 3.23 . so what dose this mean if you have an SS with AUTO i dont know the manual dosent say anything about it i would ask a dealer if they order parts for the SS as a WS6

some more hepl full info:
ring gear dia = 7 5/8
rear axel RPO = GU6
teeth ring gear: pinion 41:12

P.S ALOT OF QUESTIONS YOU ALL HAVE CAN BE FOUND IN THE SEVICE MANUAL. PERSONALY I DONT LIKE TO TAKE PEOPLES WORD ON EVERY THING. SOME PEOPLE LIKE TO TELL YOU WHAT THEY THINK OR WHAT THEY HEAR. DONT GET ME WRONG I LOVE TO HELP YOU ALL. BUT LIKE I SEE UP ABOVE MY REPLY LOTS OF MISINFORMATION. BUY THE SEVICE MANUAL YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPOINTED.

3.42 for ALL MANUAL 6-speed LS1/LS6 cars Vette or F-body from GM.
2.73 has not been offered on a 6M F-body since 1993.
3.08 in a AUTO is ONLY AVAILABLE on C5's not F-bodies.
2.73 is BASE for LS1 F-body Auto's.
3.23 is optional PERFORMANCE axle for AUTO's available on all Z28's Formulas. STANDARD on T/A, WS6 (any model) and SS.

I see someone said that the 3.08 rear end is not an fbody rear end. well you can have the 3.08 rear end in the 3800 V6 only if you have a 4 speed AUTO. Now if you have a 3800 with the Y87 package 4 speed AUTO you have a 3.42 rear end. Now if you have a 3800 with a 5 speed you have a 3.23 rear end with or without the Y87 package.
