Would a different cam do this?

Ever since I bought my car, everyone has said it sounds like I have a different cam in it than stock. It has that sound most of the time with lopey idle, but I figure it is a bad plug. So I changed out the plugs and wires and within a week it sounded the same, like the computer corrected for it because the old ones were bad and it wanted the lopey idle. I have the lowest gears offered in Camaros (2.93 I think, can't remember offhand), and get 23 mpg highway tops even after a tune up. The last thing I can think of that suggests a new cam is that it is hard to start, like it turns over with a fight 5 or 6 times sometimes before it starts. I had the starter rebuilt and it does the same thing.

Sound like a cam to you all?

Sounds like uneven cylinders... and that can be cause by many reasons beyond the plugs/wires - dirty/leaking injectors, burned valves, low compression on a cylinder or two, incorrect valve adjustment. The fact that it is hard to start may point to the fuel system. If it loses fuel pressure on shutdown, its going to be hard to start. That may be traced back to a faulty check valve in the fuel pump, a problem with the fuel pressure regulator, or leaky injectors.

The gears are 2.73:1
