Window replacement

My car was broken into a month ago. Anyway, I got a used window from a wrecker and I'm trying to install it. I've got the door panel off and everything, got all the broken glass vacuum'd out, and I'm ready to install the new window. The window I have has a track on it and everything already. What's the easiest way to install it?

Re: Window replacement

I've replaced a few windows and have never figured out how auto recyclers remove them with the track still attached. They must rip the door apart to get them out.

You'll need to drill out the rivets on both window tracks (old & new) and slide the new window into the old track and refasten it. I'd recommend using bolts instead of rivets.

Here is a picture of the hardware.

Where did you get those rivets and grommets for the window? I just took mine out and the broke when I was drilling them. Those seem to be the exact ones that were on the window. Where can I get them?

I got that stuff at the stealership. It wasn't in stock, so they ordered it and I picked it up 2 days later.

You'll need 20096585 and 20178799. I think they come in bags containing a few so make sure and ask.

Dont bother trying to get more rivets. Just go to the hardware store and pick up some stainless steel bolts with nylon ringed locknuts as shown in my pictures posted above. Be carefull not to over-tighten them.

Re: Window replacement

You can also get those from an auto glass replacement shop, I own one and I carry a bunch of them.
