Window Regulator Spring?

Every time I close the door the spring falls off......is there a clip that holds the spring in place? Here is what it looks like

Re: Window Regulator Spring?

Had this happen on a Buick and could never get it it to stay on. I decided that if it was a problem, I would replace the regulator and never had to. I think the problem is it nneds to be on a certain way and I could never get it back the way it was originally. It is under a lot of tension when on correctly, I think.

Re: Window Regulator Spring?

I believe the spring being wound to the proper tension holds it on.

Re: Window Regulator Spring?

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it. The spring fell off after I put the new motor in. The window goes up and down fine without the spring in place.

The spring helps the motor. Without the spring, the motor may not last near as long.

Re: Window Regulator Spring?

I tried to put it back on mine. I work on these all the time and had no luck. It can be done, but years later and motor still works like new. I decide to replace it, before I would spend any more time working on it.

Re: Window Regulator Spring?

It appears no clip is needed and the tension is what holds it. Must be taken out and installed. Very hard to do and get the tension correct, but pretty sure you can do it.

My bad.....you have to twist the spring and push it in till it locks in place

Re: Window Regulator Spring?

It is easy to do, this was a 82 vette regulator. Just slide spring about 1/2 way down into the center slot, then clamp onto other end with vice grips (but not to tight) then bring the spring around to the other stud so that it is above it and then just tap it down into place with a hammer. Takes 30 seconds to do.
