I had a hell of a time getting this bolt off, too.

Use a wire brush to clean up the threads. Hit it up with PB blaster the day before you start working on it. If you have access to a torch, hit it up with some heat. Then get a big breaker bar, and go to work on it!

This is a large high torque bolt, are you using a long 1/2 drive breaker bar? A pipe extension on a short bar works to.

Re: What to use to loosen a bolt?

unless you make a living wrenching on cars, its not worth paying 90 for a breaker bar. you can get away with a 20 dollar bar. hit the bolts up with the penetrating oil a couple of hours before you decide to attempt taking it off.

Re: What to use to loosen a bolt?

Use a breaker bar or a piece of pipe over your wrench. If that doesn't work you can heat the bolt up.

If you use a socket, it should be a 6 point.

A 12 point has less contact area, and thereby a better chance of rounding the nut or bolt head.
