You want to set it at a low range for DC volts. With the TPS, the maximum voltage you need to measure is the 5.0V supplied by the PCM. The output signal will vary from about 0.50V - 4.5V.

The TPS readings should be the same, no matter what throttle body you have. The closed throttle voltage has to be between 0.20-0.90V. The PCM will baseline the closed throttle voltage as 0% TPP (throttle position percent). Some people feel you get better results with a closed throttle voltage in the range of 0.50 - 0.67V.

If you don't have the closed throttle voltage in the required range, first check to see if the throttle stop screw is out too far, preventing the blades from closing. If they are closed, but the voltage is too high with an aftermarket TB, you will need to "slot" the screw holes in the sensor, so it can be rotated to adjust the voltage.

After you check the closed throttle reading, slowly rotate the blades open. The voltage should increase smoothly, with no dropouts or spikes. At WOT, the reading will typically be the closed throttle voltage + 4V.

Measure signal voltage between the blue and black wires.

PCM voltage should be 5.0V measured between the black and gray wires.

Use small straight pins on the end of your multi-meter clips to push into the harness connector to make contact, or to pierce the insulation.
