What bolt is stonger

I need 2 new torque arm bolts, but GM wants $13 each for them. I'm probably going to just order something locally. What is stronger, a grade 8 bolt or stainless. I know it depends on what grade of stainless, but I just want a good idea. Thanks.

I don't know for sure, but I would think stainless bolts would be graded the same way.

If your buy your parts from Jason or Dal, you will pay about half of what you posted.

What he said. Stainless is a very soft metal. They're not nearly as strong as some of the hardened moly and silicon steels available. (Grade 5 vs grade 8... 7.9 vs 12.9 metrics)

That could get ugly if the cheap bolts decided to break

Been there, done that. Well they didn't break, they fell out. Guess I didn't tighten them enough. It had to happen on a curve when I decide to pass someone. It bent the bracket on my new BMR TA, I was able to bend it back by bolting it up. Right now I just have some regular bolts from lowes. I don't want to chance them too long.
