Post Brand Identity: Good or bad practice?

I have to say bad in GMs case, at least in all the cars I have seen that have subscribed to it so far. Those grill spears across the board on Chevys, Caddys Art & Science theme on every car, etc.

Mopar does it some, with bland results.

Ford seems not to do it at all, and they sell a lot of cars and trucks.

Toyota and Honduh do it, and most people say the results are uniformly bland with those two.

The only car company I see that is doing it right is Mercedes. You buy any Mercedes nowadays and you know you are getting a good looking car. (I also like how Mercedes is getting rid of the upright center B pillars on the new coupes. They are making the car stonger in the center, and going with a nice flowing but still strong B pillar at the rear, like coupes used to be in the 60's before government regulation)

But I think it is a tough thing to do to get it right, and the whole car line suffers if the deign is bad or controversial. If I were GM, I would not do it.

Every car does not need to look the same, IMO.

Brands I think that pull it off with good results right now:

Cadillac's new Arts & Science. It is fantastic! I *LOVE* it.

BMW - very well.

Mercedes to a point... I think they are bland though.

Pontiac... until recently.

Oldsmobile, with the exception of the Silhouette.

Cool

remeber ford in the early 90's..every car looks the same..the same grill..with raparound headlights..sucked..
Chevy is not too bad..the trucks well thats the trademark for trucks...the the Vette..Monte..Camaro and the Cav. Impala look diffrent in my opinion.
Pontiac..needs to lighten up on the two openings in the front grill..the Birds the only car thats not got it..well sort of but done really good..and the GTP looks good too..but if they want the twin openingd then they should do some other things than the same scoops..sux..dodge is the same way..BMW to ..there is no idividality in a car anymore..there all the same...
