two stripes on front fenders?

what are those front stripes on the front fenders? What do they represent?

Those were the GS stripes for the LT4 vette, maybe a LT1 also, i am not sure. They are something several people like on the camaros too. Only came on the driver sode on the vette, Most will do both sides.

Interesting explanation on the Grand Sports Registry site:

2. Q: What is the significance of the the red hashmarks on the front left fender of the (1996) Grand Sports?

A: During some races of the original 1963 Grand Sports, the teams placed strips of tape (rumor says duct tape) on the fenders instead of numbers to identify the cars.

That is correct, there were 3 1963 GS's they raced back then and the stripes differentiated the cars. Here's mine:

Doesn't compute. Not impossible I suppose, but I know of no professional races run in the last 50 years that didn't have the cars numbered.
If you look at picts. from the time period you will notice that sometimes they had them and sometimes they didn't, but there was always a number on the cars.
It would seem more likely that this would be done for testing, before numbers were assigned.
