transplanting the ls1 ws6 to the type 4hi

hi all:
I have a very clean type 4 with a 3.4. The car is way clean and a auto.
With change in mind I sucked up a 98 transam ws6 wreak. I want to slip
the brakes, engine and 6 speed in the 94.
So far I have rebuilt the engine and trans, redone the v-8 k member and
got the speedometer, computer and wiring harness ready to install. being
as the car is an automatic, and i will be upgrading/ downgrading to the
6 speed, does anyone have any information on mounting the clutch master
cyl. to the fire wall? Or how much of the wiring harness must be used?
I was planning on puting the engine and trans in from the bottom along
with the k member. Any thoughts?
Before anyone says it would easier to sell and by a done car, let me say
this is my hobby and I enjoy the challange.
guidence and oppinions welcomed.

merry christmas

Type 4??? Is this a VW Thing or Kuebelwagen we're talking about or did you mean 4th Gen?

Those VWs are the only type 4's I know of.

Hey Ed

All the stuff you removed from the 98 will bolt to the 94 in the same way. The clutch master cylinder should have a plug or cover installed in the A4 94 car. Just remove and replace.

Electrical wise you will have to transfer the entire driverain harness to the 94 and graft in pieces of the interior harness for the neutral safety switch. You will also run into pin location differences in where the engine harness connects to the forward body harness. To ease your impending headaches I would recomend getting a GM service manual for both the 94 and the 98. I've picked these up in abundance for real cheap from Ebay.

Don't throw away ANYTHING from the 98 until the 94 is running. You will never know what you will end up needing.

I'm pretty sure that he will need to locate and drill holes for the clutch master cylinder. I dont believe that automatic equipped cars were provisioned for the clutch. There is no plug or cover to remove, it's just solid metal.

Being that it's the same base shell, I find that hard to believe....

Re:

Thanks For The Response. Your Car Sounds Mighty Fine. Do You
Know If You Can Replace The Engine, Trans And K Member From
The Bottom Of The Gen 4. First Look Says You Should Be Able To.
I Do Not Have The Key For The 98. Do You Know If The 94 Stuff
Will Work? On My 91 I Made A Square Wave Generator And
Bypasssed The Works.
I Was Originally Going To Replace The Whole Under Dash Harness
With The Transam Donor Harness Along With The Sunami Radio.
Any Info Here Would Be Great.

Suggestion.... turn the "caps lock" key off, and your posts won't appear with the first letter of each word capitalized..... makes it hard to read.

The best way to do the swap you are looking at is from the bottom. Drop the entire engine cradle complete with k-member, suspension and tranny crossmember from both cars, swap them and bolt them back in place.

Regarding the master cylinder, I'm positive you will need to locate and mark the holes and drill them out. Cars originally equipped with automatic transmissions did not have the holes for the clutch master cylinder pre-drilled.
You will also need to mark the hole for the shifter and cut it out of the floor pan. It's best to use the rubber boot as a template.

Many V6 cars had 2 piece driveshafts. You'll want to use a 1 piece driveshaft. The radiator will likely need to be swapped as well. I'd recommend looking over both cars very carefully and making a written list of all the parts that you see need to be swapped before you start.

There are a few online guides to swapping from an automatic to a manual transmission. I'd recommend finding a good guide and taking a few moments to carefully read it. Much of the info will be very applicable to your project.

Here is a link to a guide I found.

You will also want to swap the brake systems out. The LS1 brakes are superior to the LT1 brakes on your 94'.

If he swaps the entire engine cradle, that will include the front brakes. Swapping the rear axle as a complete unit would include the rear brakes.
