Question Traction setup for street vs. track

I wasn't sure where to put this as I'm not sure if the guys in the Drag section would appreciate it very much with the street aspect in so I put it here.

I have heard a few times about their being differences between setting up a car to hook on the street and setting up one to run on the street.

Nittos/gears/stall seem to get me out of the hole pretty well on the street but I'm limited to bolt ons.

So what are the major differences in the two applications? Are they that much different?

i assume when you say "street" you mean stoplight drag races?

that being said there really isn't much difference. it's all about planting the tires. a few main thing that is better to only do on the track is things like lower tire pressures, to create better wrinkle in the sidewalls. another would be the use of slicks or drag radials, since they wear out fast and are not very good in the rain, you have to be cautious. another is the use of skinnies up front, which seriously hinder braking ability. since 75% of your stopping ability is in the front tires...3" wide tires don't work too well

some other things that are less important would be disconnecting or not having a front sway bar, and the use of drag springs and shocks since they can cause problems in corners if taken too fast

teke said it pretty well there. If you just got bolt ons you pry don't need to worry about traction a lot.

Just don't run a spool on the street or anything like that
