Throttle Cable and Cruise Control issues!!

I bought a camaro and found that the cruise control does not work. third brake light is in tact and works fine. just need to know what to check next. I'm also in need of a diagram on how the throttle, tcc and the other cable hooks up. two of them are connected but one isn't. i tried to hook the one up to the spot in the asr box but it was wrong. so im guessing that the other cable may be wrong. please help!

Re: Throttle Cable and Cruise Control issues!!

is your check engine light on? if you have a manual transmission and one of your clutch switches goes out, itll turn on the light, and disable your cruise control. good news is its a cheap fix. i got a new switch for $6

Re: Throttle Cable and Cruise Control issues!!

You need to provide details of your vehicle. There are variations from year to year. Best thing to do is add a "Signature" with the basic info - year, model, engine, trans and any major mods. In this case, you also need to advise whether the vehicle has TCS/ASR (optional, 1995-97) - which you appear to have.

Re: Throttle Cable and Cruise Control issues!!

The vehicle is a 2001 camaro z28 with a VIN #2G1FP22G012106825. It has an automatic transmission 4l60E. The motor is a LS1 out of a 1999 Corvette. It does have ASR/TCS. as a matter of fact the ASR and ABS light is on. No Check engine light though! My Cruise control doesn't work either. hope that enough info. if ya need more i will gladly reply. Thanks guys!

Re: Throttle Cable and Cruise Control issues!!

I looked at the only handy reference I have and the 98 factory manual seems to indicate that the presence of an ABS or TCS code can disable the cruise control. The ABS and TCS trouble codes would not turn on the SES light. The fact you have the ABS and TCS lights on would indicate a code. That needs to be read from the EBTCM system. That requires a scanner with ABS capabilities.

With regard to the cables are you asking how they hook up to the throttle cam? Again the 98 manual may be applicable and I can post a diagram of the cable hookip from that manual.

Here's a file that covers the cruise control cable, 5.7L V8, with and without TCS:
