When i begin driving when im in 1st gear and acccelerating the SKIP SHIFT light pops up when i get to 2500 rpm the light comes off and it will let me shift perfectly.but if i change gears before 2500 rpm when the SKIP SHIFT light comes on, it won't let me shift, but i was wondering if thats bad cuz when i shift in every gear it shifts perfect. thank u

Skip-shift forces you to shift from 1->4 at low throttle/low rpm. That feature was added to the T56 tranny in 1994 to increase the fuel mileage rating. The Skip-Shift light on the dash comes on when the skip-shift solenoid is activated, blocking the shift to 2nd gear.

The skip-shift feature can be deleted on OBD-I cars simply by unplugging the harness connector from the solenoid on the side of the tranny. It will still set a trouble code, but no SES in OBD-I. If you add a 2Kohm resistor across the pins in the harness connector, it will eliminate the code.

Or, you can have the feature programmed out of the PCM.
