Re: Should I delete my whole air system?

pros:
less clutter
less weight
no whine from the electric pump (LS1)

cons:
will throw a code
will not meet emissions
probably clog your cats faster

If you don't have any emissions get rid of the Air. It'll really reduce your clutter. The pro's and con's really depends on the year of car. You won't get a code if you have a 93-95 car. If you have anything on up you will need to have your computer reprogrammed to get them eliminated. As for the cat clogging up i've heard that is an old wives tale. I personally ran with out the Air system on a Heads and cam car and it never plugged my cat up. I ran it for a couple years like that actually.

Yeah, believe it or not, that air pump leaves alot of clutter in the engine bay considering the pipes have to go to both banks and everything. It was the stupid AIR pump hose on the passenger side that laid a good scratch on my header during the install. I was too busy guiding it around the head that I wasn't paying attention to the AIR pipe that was sticking straight up

I have emmisions testing but typically go through with the cutout wide open, so not much of my exhaust actually gets to the tips. If I were to remove my AIR system, do you think I could still get past the sniffers? How big a PITA is it to remove? I sure would like to de-clutter my engine bay a bit.

Might want to include info about the year of your car and engine, in order to get a meaningful answer. A "signature" with that info, plus any major mods helps people help you....

In this case, the answer might be different depending on whether you own a 3rd Gen or a 4th Gen. The 3rd Gen's run the AIR system continuously and its belt driven. The 4th Gens only run the AIR pump at startup, and its electric.
